WHAT IS THE STATE OF THE OCEAN?
What are we doing? This is a most frequently asked question. Research has it covered that every year, billions of pounds of trash and other pollutants enters into the oceans. We ask, where does this pollution come from? Where does it go? Some of the debris ends up on our beaches, washed in with the waves and tides. Some debris sinks, some eaten by marine animals that mistake it for food, and some accumulates in Ocean gyres.
The majority of pollutants that make their way into the ocean come form human activities along the coastlines and far inland. Plastic accumulating in our oceans and on our beaches has become a global crisis. Billions of pounds of plastic can be found in swirling convergences that make up about 40 percent of the world’s ocean surfaces. At current rates plastic is expected to outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050. Thousands of seabirds and sea turtles, seals and other marine mammals are killed each year after ingesting plastic or getting entangled in it.
WHAT MEASURES HAS BEEN TAKEN TO REDUCE THE MOVEMENT OF TRASH INTO THE OCEAN?
Early this year, a river barrier was deployed to reduce the wide spread of trash in the oceans and seas and of course, we’ve been able to eradicate a large amount of trash form our rivers across the world.
In Padang Indonesia, the barriers were repaired and already working on cleaning the veins of our planet. Here are photo proves of a progressive cleanup operation.
These are least compare to what’s already done. In the month of August, our barriers gathered 775kg of trash. And we have plans in deploying new barriers to effectively eradicates more trash form the Marine Ecosystem.
